May Focus: Hua Hin of Yesteryear
The “Hua Hin of Yesterday 2017” event held from 28th April to 7th May at 19 Rai – Queen’s Park, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. The event’s aims were to promote tourism and local culture in Hua Hin, but was also to allow every sector to pay homage to their royal highnesses. It’s original design was to commemorate the wedding of their royal highnesses King Bhumipol and Queen Sirikit on 28th April, 1950. This year was to have been their 67th wedding anniversary. This is the first time the event has taken place since the untimely passing of HRH King Bhumipol in October last year.
The event, as always, is organised by the Provincial administration of Prachuap Khiri Khan, in co-operation with the Hua Hin Municipality and some of Hua Hin’s tourism operators. Fostering the cultural identity of Hua Hin has always been an aim, with a retro atmosphere for visitors to reminisce about the earlier bygone days of Hua Hin and to experience the charm and classic beauty of Hua Hin.

It encompasses a wide range of activities such as contemporary and traditional music performances, light and sound shows, Thai silk fashion show, Miss Hua Hin Contest, ballroom dancing, parades, cultural shows and folk plays. The event was officially opened on 28th April at 7.30 p.m.

At the event, you can also buy many local products all labelled OTOP (One Tambon, One Product). Attendees are encouraged to wear period costumes!

With a large focus on food, the 2017 festival has so far been a huge success. Quality street food is on offer as well as activities for the kids. There is also reserved seating for those that wish a set meal and a table.

It was certainly an event not to be missed.
