From the coastal city of Hua Hin, it is possible to travel to pretty much any part of the Kingdom you desire.
There are buses and flights to Chiang Mai, as well as trains to much of the south.
Getting back to Bangkok is not difficult at all; be it directly to the airport by bus, or into town via bus, minibus, minivan or rail; the choices are endless.
Rail
With the upgrading of the route between Hua Hin and Bangkok to dual track, rail is by far the most relaxed way to get away from Hua Hin. All of the trains from Hua Hin depart from the new Hua Hin Railways Station; this station has trains 9 times daily to Bangkok, taking between 3 hours to 3hrs 42 minutes to cover the 200km distance.

It wasn't that long ago that there was a route between Hua Hin and Udon Thani, as well as Hua Hin and Kuala Lumpur. With vast improvements already undertaken to the Hua Hin airport runways and infrastructure, and with more still in the pipeline, it is hoped that the airport with finally fulfil its potential.
MiniVan
There a number of services operating MinVans and MiniBuses from Hua Hin to a multitude of destinations, both North and South. The MiniBus service is our preferred option if choosing to travel this way, though there are certainly far less destinations to choose from.
Be aware that MiniVans are often small 14 seater vehicles with minimal leg room and strict baggage restrictions. Having said that, they are also by far he most popular way for Thais to travel around their Kingdom; they are affordable and offer convenient scheduling. They are not for everyone, but serve a purpose.
